I had known that the total solar eclipse was going to be right over our heads for quite some time. I had not given it too much thought until a few weeks before the big day. That's how I roll. I'm more of a last minute type of girl. I work better under pressure. Some say I'm a procrastinator, others say spontaneous. I prefer the latter. But as the event was drawing near, and I started hearing phrases like "historical proportion, once in a life time, millions of people gazing at the sun." In my heart I knew we had to do something, something to celebrate this magnificent event... something we all love to do...
We had to eat.
And we had to eat on what we love: The land.
"Lunch on the Land" was an opportunity to invite people to view God's handy work in the sky on our native prairie pasture.
With the help of family and friends, we hosted fifty people from six different states including Nebraska, Missouri, Illinois, Ohio, Minnesota, and Colorado. We had a lot in common.
WE LOVED TO VISIT.
WE LOVED TO EAT.
Chipotle grass-fed wraps served with Aronia berry salsa and all the fixins....yummalicious.
WE HAD WATERMELON.
These two cuties are our cousin's kids from Illinois. Their mom Jill is a fantastic cook and knows a thing or two about kitchen knives. She was the Chopping Queen...young and sweet.... only forty one....(for all you Mamma Mia fans).
WE HAD JUMBO ECLIPSE SUGAR COOKIES.
My 87 year old mother made jumbo eclipse homemade sugar cookies She's adorable, and I love her. She's famous for her baking; at least in Stromsburg.
WE HAD POPCORN.
Some of our wonderful help: Uncle Bob, Aunt Rosie (our chief popcorn popper for the event), and cousin Alex.
WE ALL WORE THE SAME GLASSES..
WE LOOKED AT THE SKY ALOT.
EVERYONE WAS SMILING.
THE LIGHT ALL AROUND WAS JUST BEAUTIFUL.
I will not be held responsible for my neice's future vision problems.
AFTERWARDS THERE WAS ICE-CREAM TOPPED WITH ARONIA BERRY SYRUP.
Ok I think we are done eating now.
My sister Cindy and her husband John. She helped coordinate the event. They have Schofield Aronia Berry Farm. It's beautiful. .
Cousin Kelly and her favorite cousin.
My brother Owen and wife Kari. They have four kids just like us. We have lots of memories together. The two girls in the middle are from Italy. They lived with my brother's family and we don't want them to go home.
LOTS OF NEW FRIENDS.
THE AIR BECAME COOLER.
FOR ONE MINUTE AND ELEVEN SECONDS EVERYTHING STOOD STILL.
We had a great time and the eclipse was beyond what I could have imagined. It was a glimpse of the majesty of our Creator. It was beautiful .
